Freight forwarder

포워더는 자기 배나 비행기 없이, 선사·항공사의 설비를 이용해 화주 대신 수출입 운송을 주선하는 회사입니다. 법에서는 국제물류주선업자라고 합니다.
포워더는 선사·항공사처럼 직접 배나 비행기를 운영하지 않습니다. 대신 여러 화주의 화물을 모아 선사·항공사와 계약하고, 운송 전 과정을 화주 대신 맡아 줍니다.
마스터와 하우스
포워더가 모은 묶음과 그 안의 개별 화물에는 각각 다른 운송장이 붙습니다.
- 선사·항공사 → 묶음 전체에 MBL(마스터 운송장)
- 포워더 → 묶음 안 개별 화주 화물에 HBL(하우스 운송장)
그래서 개인이 자기 화물을 추적할 때 쓰는 번호는 보통 HBL입니다.
어디까지 해 주나
운송 주선뿐 아니라 통관·보관·내륙운송까지 연결해 주기도 합니다. 법적으로는 물류정책기본법상 '국제물류주선업자'로, 자기 명의와 계산으로 타인의 설비를 이용해 수출입화물의 물류를 주선하며, 시·도지사에게 등록합니다.
