A code Korea Customs sends by email or text for each overseas purchase — commonly called the PCCC OTP. It is entered alongside the personal customs clearance code to confirm the buyer, and took effect on 28 August 2026.

It is usually called the PCCC OTP. Korea Customs calls it a one-time authentication code; they are the same thing. It does not replace the personal customs clearance code. It is a second layer on top of it, and both are checked together. The point is to stop people using somebody else's clearance code. A clearance code never changes, so once it leaks it can be reused indefinitely — and it has been, to avoid tax and to bring in drugs. Asking for a fresh code with every order closes that. When it starts applying to you depends on your situation. Anyone issued a new code, or changing their registered details, is covered immediately. Anyone who already holds a code is covered from the month of their 2027 birthday, when the code has to be renewed. You will not have to type it in everywhere. Shopping sites approved by Korea Customs authenticate on the buyer's behalf, so the step disappears at those. Codes are retrieved from the dedicated e-commerce customs platform, which also handles issuing, renewing and cancelling clearance codes, duty lookup and payment, and clearance status. It has been in trial operation since 28 August 2026 and is due to open formally within the year. One caution: expect text messages impersonating these notifications. Never give the code to anyone who phones or texts asking for it — it goes only into the checkout page of the shop you are buying from.
