Personal customs clearance code (PCCC)

personal clearance code · PCCC

A 13-character code beginning with P, issued free by Korea Customs to an individual. It identifies the recipient when a personal import is cleared, in place of a resident registration number.

It is issued at unipass.customs.go.kr using a mobile phone registered in your own name, and is reused for every subsequent purchase. It exists so that a resident registration number does not have to be handed to every overseas shop — it leaks less personal data. It is also the most common reason a parcel stops. If the name, date of birth or phone number differs in any detail from what Korea Customs holds, the customs office cannot confirm who the recipient is and the shipment waits. Spelling of a romanised name, a surname changed after marriage, and a disconnected old phone number are the usual causes. If you are stuck, check the details registered with Korea Customs first and make the shop or forwarding address match them. Reissuing the code itself is rarely necessary.
