Glossary

Import declaration accepted

cleared · released by customs

The point at which customs accepts the import declaration and the goods may enter the country. Duty and VAT are fixed here, and clearance is effectively complete.

Customs has finished. What remains is taking the goods out of the warehouse and handing them to a courier. If clearance is accepted but delivery has not begun, that is usually where the shipment is. It takes about a day, and the parcel only appears in the courier's own tracking once they have received and scanned it. Where duty and VAT are payable, acceptance follows confirmation of payment.
