Waybill

waybill number · consignment note

A waybill is the document recording the carriage contract between the sender and the company moving the goods. Each shipment carries a unique waybill number by which its progress is followed.

A waybill states the sender, the recipient, the description, quantity and weight, origin and destination, the waybill number and the freight terms. It is not an invoice. An invoice records the price and terms of the sale, and in international trade that is what duty is assessed on. The waybill tells you where the goods are. A cross-border parcel changes number once on the way. From abroad to Korean customs it moves under an HBL number; after clearance the leg to the door runs under a domestic courier's waybill number.
