Customs clearance

The process by which goods arriving from abroad are checked by customs and released into the country: arrival, unloading report, warehouse entry, import declaration, release, and departure from the warehouse.

Arrival — the ship or aircraft has reached Korea. Unloading report — customs is told the cargo has been taken off. Warehouse entry — the goods are in a bonded warehouse. Import declaration — a declaration is filed to bring the goods in. Release — customs accepts it; duty and VAT are fixed at this point. Departure — the goods leave the warehouse and pass to a courier. If clearance is complete but delivery has not started, the shipment is between the warehouse and the courier. That can take about a day.
